Transforming Grid Management with Data-Driven Insights

Demand Prediction
Machine Learning

One of Europe's largest energy producers faced challenges as the electricity grid transformed due to efforts to eliminate fossil emissions and the rise of new technologies like EVs and household solar cells. The client's customer insights team struggled with outdated, manual processes in Excel, leading to inefficient forecasting and underutilised data. Netlight introduced an iterative Proof-of-Concept (PoC) approach, quickly demonstrating the value of automated, data-driven forecasts and insights. By challenging the traditional methods, Netlight helped the team transition to a more agile, iterative workflow, resulting in faster, more accurate forecasting and an expanded scope of output. This shift also fostered closer collaboration between business, operations, and insights teams. Rolemodelling the knowledge-sharing DNA, Netlight provided training to ensure the team could continue delivering high-quality, data-driven insights over time, significantly improving the client’s overall forecasting and grid management approach.

Transforming Self-Service with a Cutting-Edge Portal for a Power Distributor

Product & Innovation
UX Design

Norway's largest power distribution company, serving a third of the population through 65,000 kilometers of power cables, sought to centralise customer relationship data and enhance self-service capabilities, particularly in high-demand areas. To achieve this, they partnered with Netlight to design and develop a user-friendly customer portal from the ground up. This included creating reliable APIs, integrating with existing systems, and implementing a secure single sign-on for seamless access to invoices, metering point data, and remote network port (HAN port) management. Netlight continuously gathered user feedback to refine the interface, ensuring an intuitive experience that empowered customers to manage their data and interactions effectively. The result was a robust, scalable platform that significantly enhanced self-service options, reduced dependency on customer support, and enabled the client to decrease their support staff from 120 to 80 employees, laying the foundation for future growth.

Scaling a Clean-Tech Startup to Industry Leadership

Digital Twin

The client, a clean-tech startup specialising in battery optimisation through predictive analytics, needed support transitioning from a research-focused entity to a scalable cloud-based product company. Initially, they sought Netlight's help to run their simulation models at scale and handle large data volumes without downtime. By laying the groundwork by defining the product focus, Netlight could proceed with establishing an agile organisation and designing a scalable AWS-based cloud architecture. As the client grew, Netlight provided interim leadership roles—CTO, VP-Engineering, Tech Lead, and Product Coach—to navigate challenges and set the stage for future success. This partnership transformed the client into a leading player in battery analytics, enhancing data processing and enabling substantial company growth.
